Wowlf

Thank you Adobe and Design Buddies for organising, hosting and choosing me to be one of the winners for “Design Your Own Animal” Week 4 Creative Challenge ❤️ There were so many brilliant artists and it was a fantastic experience to be a part of. It’s great to meet and see a lot of creativity in the community and I can’t wait for more 🎨🖌️

Below is my submission, the category chosen, and a little bit of insight in my creative process of my Wowlf:
Category: Non AI Submission
Name: Wowlf
Program: This was created in Clip Studio Paint EX
Description: The idea of this fantastical creature is the hybridisation between a Long-Eared Owl and a Black Wolf. In designing the Wowlf, I've drawn inspiration from Iranian mythical creatures; the Simurgh and the Huma Bird, whilst also using Egyptian aesthetics for their colour palettes and the God-like appearance as Wowlf's final evolution. In an ever-developing world, I believe hybridisation will be possible and inherit certain genetics for creatures to survive as a part of natural selection. This evolution chart displays what an Wowlf looks like from child to adult.

First evolution - Child: The child’s anatomy and walk pose, it was inspired by how Wyvern Dragons would have claws/joints on their wings to help them claw forward - using wings as forelimbs. I wanted to have the joints to be padded with puffed out feathers, so when they walk, it wouldn’t put so much pressure on the wings themselves. With the features only growing on the back to the tail.

Second evolution - Teenage: For the teenager’s anatomy, it had to be a bridge between a child and adult. And what better way than analysing at our own T-Rex skeletons. That way, the Wowlf would still have hind legs to use for running if needed (considering Wowlf if part wolf). I wanted the teenage evolution to be walking on two legs but with a bit of a hunch (or at least with a bit of a curve) to show the upright development into Adulthood.

Third/Final evolution - Adult: Finally the final form is a full standing, upright, anthropomorphic creature of an Owl and Wolf. It needed to take on a God-like appearance and stretched out wings to make their presence known. Throughout the evolution, I’ve carefully drawn how the feathers would grow. The final design had to become an outfit of some nature and by covering themselves from the head, to the back/front and making its way to the tail as a fully feathery wolf-like tail.
