My first drawing tells a story of a girl who must hide her true self and hiding her true feelings as she was told that ever she was a baby. She was always told to put up a front – always be happy and cheerful and to never show what’s troubling her. “Act the part” they said. “Don’t show your tears” they repeated. “Don’t be so silly” they ordered. The girl never lets out her true feelings as she must put up a front, hence, holding a mask with cracks to symbolising crying or tears. Her other side of the face without the mask shows her emotionless face as a way to make no one realise she is hurting from the inside. The hourglass with her heart is slowly running dry as she continues these events, causing her to drown herself with lies and heartache. The whole shape of the drawing is an hourglass itself. Displaying that her time is running out as each tear she sheds, the closer she becomes to death; suicide.
